When Slow Living Meets Entrepreneurship With Crystal Yeap

Crystal Yeap of Slow Live Create on The Yay Project blog

Hi guys! Today I'm so excited to introduce you to Crystal of slowlivecreate. Crystal is a Christian creative and entrepreneur based in Singapore and her art is so delicate and detailed. She specializes in Procreate floristry art.

We met on Instagram and connected over how much we love to serve God through the creative arts — painting and drawing. Then one day. Sent me an Instagram message, asking for thoughts on how we can reach out to both Christians and non-Christians through the creative arts. And at the time I was mulling over this very question! I suggested maybe we get together for a Zoom date, and then one thing led to another and now we've become good friends.

I'm just so in awe of Crystal because she is building a business and doing it God's way. When we recorded this interview, I was sort of just starting to get into the grips of, "Okay, I'm going to start business school. I feel like I have a year to get things off the ground." I was feeling pressure and excitement all at the same time. Then this conversation... I feel like God really used this episode to sink into my heart how important it is to do things his way. His way isn't the world's way. His timing isn't the world's timing. Sometimes it's so much faster. Sometimes it's so much slower. But there's nothing better than doing it God's way.

I hope that you'll enjoy this episode! Let's hear from Crystal.

More about slowlivecreate

slowlivecreate's goal is to create a safe space for others to express their creativity and to point people to God.

It aims to serve women from university till motherhood (especially ages 20 to 35) who are undergoing a transition in their life or starting to question their life, and are in need of support from a community.

Crystal offers three main services:

1) 1:1 Procreate Coaching: to help women lean into the concept of "digital floristry" using the ascension model in order to meet people at different stages in their journey.

2) Commission Work: to help women develop a framework/process for their commission work in order to bring out the story a little more and create with intention and purpose to serve clients.

3) Product Development: to help women use themes to drive their creative process and bring out powerful messages to help people in their own journey (see below):

“She believes in a higher calling even when she was like most of us — hustling through the busyness; feeling trapped in short-changed dreams. It took her over a decade to step away from her role in the fashion industry. Her first intention was to fall away from consumerism and focus on her being. When she began to witness God's faithfulness, where He seeded the truth that we are all made equal and creative, she soon saw that it was the busyness that buried away God's creativity for us. How often do we trade time with God for more time to work for income? She also wonders - if God has created us in His image, why do we limit God's capabilities to capitalize on our capacity in human form?"

/ 1 Corinthians 2:11 TPT “So it is with God. His thoughts and secrets are only fully understood by His Spirit, the Spirit of God.”

I love how Crystal describes her journey here:

Slowness was not just a physical reaction to being slower. It came from a place where the intentionality was to quieten the noise surrounding her. In this space, she could breathe the fresh wind of God's anointing, using her hands to create art on a digital surface. What started as a hobby turned into a small business where she began creating bespoke commissioned artwork. Along the journey, she met people who shared clarity to what God had chosen her to do. Eventually, her art grew into this passion, forming a community for others to share the same movement for slowness. The Lord's heart is for us to love life and to see many good days, especially when we allow ourselves to be restful and at peace with who we are in Christ — His beloved children.

/ Ephesians 3:17 TPT “Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of your life.”
