So You Wanna Replace Coffee With Jesus?

I saw a post the other day that said something along the lines of “Replace caffeine with Jesus. Try it!” and I went 🧐 then wondered, “Do I love coffee too much?”

Coffee makes me feel like I can do it all. But sometimes it can turn into a slightly manic, wearing myself out way. My body may temporarily feel like it’s superhuman BUT the crash always comes … and I start the next day reaching for a cup first thing.

While praying this morning (with a cup of coffee in hand!), I felt like I had some “build up” that needed to be cleansed. More and more I’m realizing that sin isn’t just the big times where we mess up. But all ungodly thoughts count too … even if they only last for a second! Our hearts need to be constantly checked, refreshed with the blood of Jesus.

And how blessed we are that we can receive Jesus’s cleansing touch anytime we ask.

  1. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. (Psalm 23:3)

  2. For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish. (Jeremiah 31:25)

  3. Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, (Acts 3:19-20)

  4. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

  5. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. (1 John 3:3)

  6. fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

  7. but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

  8. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)

  9. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13)

  10. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29)

After prayer, repentance, cleansing this morning, I felt a lot of joy and freedom. I felt truly refreshed and joyful that I wasn’t hiding anything from him.

Trusting Jesus is truly soul refreshing … in a way caffeine is not haha. And unlike caffeine, thankfully we don’t need to moderate Jesus … we’ll never be able to get enough of him! So I guess I’m onboard with that post after all. It’s not that Jesus will do the same thing as caffeine (I think that’s how I read it initially) … he is so much better and will do so much more. (Also yes I think reducing my caffeine intake is something I’ll work on in the new year … feel free to keep me accountable, especially if you’re in the same boat haha. Will need to find a new hot beverage for my sipping and soaking times with the Lord.)

Lovely friends, I pray we all make time to bask in Jesus’s presence today and receive the refreshment, energy, and buzz that can only come from him. Let’s ask him to love on us and enjoy it when he does. ❤️ #theyayproject
