Out for Dinner With Heaven on Our Mind
In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus teaches about living free from anxiety by trusting God will provide.
My study Bible further explains “Jesus gave them comforting reassurance that God would provide for their needs.” Whenever we get stressed or worried, we can know without a doubt, because the Bible says, that God is our provider (Philippians 4:19), that Jesus is always with us (Matthew 28:20), that the Holy Spirit is inside of us (1 Corinthians 3:16). Help and comfort are just one prayer away.
Oh the joy of living life with God!
The other day, I was out to dinner with a friend at Aqua (reviewing their new Golden Ticket dinner for Foodie). We had a table facing the Hong Kong skyline and at one point dark storm clouds started rolling in.
The sight reminded us of Hebrews 12:11:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. (NLT)
Rick Warren explains, “Moses is watching you. Abraham is watching you. Every believer who has ever lived is in the stands watching you live out your faith. And they’re cheering you on. When you’re scared, they’re rooting for you to be courageous. When you want to give up, they’re urging you to keep going. When you feel insignificant and forgotten, they’re in your corner. Everyone at some point feels like no one believes in them, like they can’t seem to get a break or do anything right. When you feel like that, remember you’re never alone. Your heavenly cheering squad believes you can do hard things with God’s help.”
How awesome. Amen that we can handle whatever comes our way because there is nothing more powerful than God and he is for us.
So I pray we learn to invite God into more areas of our lives. That we make more space for him (…we all probably have some things we could cut out of our lives and replace with e.g. more prayer and worship, no?) and long to fill our eyes and minds with the things of God. I pray we eagerly yearn for him to change our hearts, open our eyes, serve out the plans he’s prepared for us and above all eagerly await the day we will see him face to face.
One day, we will see our beloved Jesus face to face. Oh what a glorious day it will be.
