A Guaranteed Way to Hear From God
We all love hearing from God, right?
Best thing ever.
I think it’s why I love early mornings so much. Refreshed, coffee in hand and ready to spend time with God! To hear from him through his Word and through the still small voice! That intimacy of knowing the most important thing in my life, of being known by the most important thing in my life … it really is a love / peace / joy like no other.
And then maybe we all have those times where we want to hear from God but don’t hear anything.
Sometimes we worship and wait and ask and plead and our hearts still feel… normal. Tonight I had one of those nights, worshipping and waiting, curled up and wondering what was going on. Then I felt God gently remind me that our relationship isn’t only about me hearing from God in that way. I can open my Bible at anytime and hear from him. So I did and as I read (more of John), I realised the joy of learning about God’s character in different ways. How God relates to Jesus. How Jesus taught the disciples, his words still teaching us things all these years later. Why and how we have been given the Holy Spirit.
Reading more about his love, well that definitely warmed up my heart. And it reminded me of how wonderful it is to continuously walk with and learn more things about him.
Afterwards, I sat feeling sheepish / thankful. God knows all my weaknesses and accepts me as I am. I felt him press the following on my heart.
“I want you to remember I love you just as you are. Don’t be afraid to approach me. Don’t worry about loving me perfectly. I love you. I will help you grow. Stay connected to my vine and let me work. Remember: you do your part and let me do mine. I will blow your mind.”
“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more … I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! (John 15:1-2, 9-11)
He knows us so well, you guys. He loves and accepts us just as we are. And because he is so loving, he wants to give us way more than we deserve. Praise him, let us praise him! (And accept his love! Real talk right, for some reason sometimes we don’t do this…).
If you needed this reminder today too, shall we thank him together?
