5 Songs to Sing / Say When It's Hard to Pray

This morning I woke up feeling very tired. I usually get up around 6 AM, and did so again today despite the tiredness, because, it might sound extreme to some, but in this season I really need two hours or so with God in the morning. His presence, His wisdom, His love … I really don’t like going about my day without having praised Him, spoken with Him, learned from Him … my own wisdom and strength is insufficient for life! Aha.

This week has been busy and yesterday was tough emotionally. Our sermon on Sunday was on the gift of healing and at small group yesterday we discussed what we learned, how we were processing, and also about the struggle when prayers for healing don’t turn out like we expect / declare / hope. Even after reading my Bible this morning, my heart was feeling funky so I just prayed lyrics in my heart.

“I surrender all. All to thee my blessed Saviour, I surrender all.” (I Surrender All, hymn)

“Lord, I give you my heart. I give you my soul. I live for you alone. Every step that I take, every moment I’m awake. Lord, have your way in me.”

(I Give You My Heart, Hillsong) “We bow our hearts. We bend our knees. Oh Spirit, come make us humble … Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts. Let us not lift our souls to another.”

(Give Us Clean Hands, Chris Tomlin)

“You are good, good. Oh, oh. You are good, good. Oh, Oh.”

(King of My Heart, Bethel)

“My soul longs for you,” I told God. “Lord, please don’t be silent. I need you!” And He came, my heart grew tender, I prayed more.

One of the reasons I like documenting my everyday walk, and reading about others’ everyday walks, is to remember all the different ways God works. Today I prayed and He met me in the way that I asked. But on days, seasons where He chooses to meet me in a different way than I expect … Lord, I pray that

“yet I will praise You, yet I will sing of Your name.”

(Weep With Me, Rend Collective)

I believe and trust that our God is faithful. Our God is love. Even when we don’t get it, our God is good. Are you with me? I hope so. ❤️ During unexpected times, let’s cover one another in prayer and During unexpected times, let’s cover one another in prayer and help each other pray things like:

“Here in the midst of my lament, I have faith, yes I still believe (help my unbelief) … You're working everything for good even when I can't see.”
